The sacred legend of Melvenpakkam Thiruchanidhi speaks of its deep-rooted divinity and ancient significance. Our vast and glorious land of Bharata (India) is adorned with thousands of temples, stretching from the east to the west and from the north to the south. Among these, many ancient shrines have sadly been forgotten over time, either due to foreign invasions or because of the neglect of our own people. One such deeply sacred and ancient shrine is the Melvenpakkam Thiruchanidhi. This temple’s origin is so ancient that it cannot be measured by time. It is believed that the divine form of the deity manifested in different sizes in each of the four Yugas—11 feet tall in the Satya Yuga, 9 feet in the Treta Yuga, 6 feet in the Dvapara Yuga, and just 2.5 feet in the current Kali Yuga. Such divine beauty of the Thayar and Perumal residing in this shrine is so enchanting that even a thousand eyes would not be enough to behold it. The temple follows the sacred Pancharatra Agama tradition, ensuring that ancient rituals and spiritual practices are preserved and carried out with utmost devotion.

Sri Mahaperiyava has blessed that chanting the Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam even once in the Gosala (cow shelter) here will yield the merit equivalent to chanting it one crore (ten million) times. Since Sri Thayar (Goddess Lakshmi) is the presiding deity of this shrine, the Gosala here is considered especially sacred. Currently, the Gosala houses 20 cows and their calves, all of which are being cared for with great devotion and proper maintenance
